Meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Cities, Local Governance & Public Relations

The delegation of the Sri Lanka – Maldives Business Council (SLMLBC) had the privilege of meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Cities, Local Governance & Public Relations on May 15th 2024. The meeting was attended by Minister Hon. Mr. Adam Shareef Umar and other officials of the Ministry.

Hon. Mr. Shareef highlighted collaborative opportunities to enhance local governance, municipal services, business prospects, and sustainable development projects. He emphasized their objective to improve telecom services in the Maldives, focusing on regulatory aspects and enhancing overall governance and services. The Mayor expressed a commitment to further improving telecom services as a priority.

Discussions centered on potential collaborations between the two countries in water and sewerage networks, green projects for island development, and utilizing treated water for gardening and irrigation purposes. The delegation also discussed opportunities regarding waste management regulations and the potential for successful private sector involvement.

Additionally, SLMLBC President proposed initiating heritage tourism in the Maldives and pledged support to Maldivians interested in launching such initiatives.
